My Name is Khan (IMDb rating: 8/10)

My Name Is Khan, directed by Karan Johar and starring the popular duo Sharukh Khan and Kajol, is the next on the list of Best Movies On Disney+ Hotstar. This is not your typical KJo film; rather, it is a beautifully executed romantic drama set against the backdrop of the 9/11 attack in the United States, which shook the entire world. Due to an unfortunate incident, the love story between the simple, honest, and innocent Rizwan Khan (Shah Rukh Khan), who has Asperger syndrome, and the lively Mandira (Kajol) turns tragic. The energetic 23-year-old girl risked her life to save passengers and crew members from terrorists. Neerja Bhanot, a part-time model and survivor of an abusive marriage, was the flight’s head purser and used her courage and compassion to end the horrific incident. Sonam Kapoor will impress you in the title role, as will Shabana Azmi in the role of Neerja’s mother.

Murder On The Orient Express

The film follows renowned detective Hercule Poirot in his quest to find the culprit behind a murder on the Orient Express. It’s a light-content murder mystery that’s easy to get hooked into. Everyone is suspect and evasive in their demeanor, making Poirot’s job even more difficult. Kenneth Brannagah stars as Detective Poirot, an expert in the deduction. He does an excellent job reprising the role. In contrast, a star-studded supporting cast that includes Judi Dench, Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Daisy Ridley, Olivia Colman, and Michelle Pfifer does an excellent job of keeping the audience engaged the story.

Ford V Ferrari

James Mangold’s Ford v Ferrari was a more recent film that was one of the Oscar favorites earlier this year and was a pure adrenaline rush of a film. Ford vs. Ferrari was based on one of the most enthralling sports rivalries. It was about two car manufacturing titans and their quest for supremacy in the 1960s at the 24-hour Le Man’s race. Ford v Ferrari is pure joy to watch thanks to some edge-of-your-seat action sequences and is cinematic gold for any motorhead, thanks to an impressive cast that includes Matt Damon as Caroll Shelby and Christian Bale as Ken Miles, among others. Earlier this year, Ford v Ferrari won the Academy Award for best sound editing.

Avatar

It’s not the best movie on the list, and I still have some issues with the plot. However, there’s no denying how many milestones this James Cameron project achieved when it was released almost a decade ago. We had never seen anything like Avatar before, and I remember being captivated by it on IMAX. There was never a dull moment in terms of visuals, and the audience was immersed in Pandora for the film’s duration.

Shape Of Water

This Guillermo Del Toro film won Best Picture at the 2018 Oscars. It is a love story with some of the most extraordinary premises and triumphs in its simplicity and heartfelt storytelling. The story of a lonely Janitor who falls in love with a research experiment — an amphibious creature held captive — develops a beautiful relationship with the creature. In the lead roles is Sally Hawkins as Elisa, the Janitor, Michael Shannon, Octavia Spencer, and Doug Jones, the amphibious creature.

The Art of Racing in the Rain

Do you like dogs? If so, this Hotstar film is for you. It tells the story of Enzo, a Golden Retriever who is a friend to a race car driver. The film follows the four-legged creature throughout his life, as his master (Milo Ventimiglia) marries, has children, loses family members, and so on.

It’s one of those heartwarming, feel-good stories you’ve come to expect from great dog movies like Hachi and Marley & Me. The best part of the film is its upbeat yet emotional ending, which will undoubtedly bring tears to your eyes.

Nomadland

Nomadland is one of the Best Movies On Disney+ Hotstar. At the 93rd Academy Awards, the film won the best picture, the best director, and the best actress.
